Back Feather

Geese and ducks have back feathers, in addition to the jowl feathers, primarily for flight and protection. Back feathers have a flat, two-dimensional structure with a stiff feather shaft running down the middle.

Back feathers offer limited insulation and softness compared to goose feathers. For this reason, they are more affordable than goose feathers. Due to this price advantage, back feathers are generally used as filling material both in blends with goose feathers and in products such as pillows and seat cushions that require more weight but less heat insulation.
